Director of Engaged Community Research (TBF) Posted on March 31, 2021 As Greater Boston’s community foundation, the Boston Foundation devotes its resources to building and sustaining a vital, prosperous city and region, where justice and opportunity are extended to everyone. We fulfill this mission in three principal ways: Making grants to nonprofit organizations and designing special funding initiatives to address this community’s critical challenges; Working in partnership with donors and other funders to achieve high-impact philanthropy; and Serving as a civic hub and center of information, where ideas are shared, levers for change are identified, and common agendas for the future are developed. ABOUT THE POSITION The Director of Engaged Community Research, reporting to the Deputy Director, is responsible for designing and implementing King Boston’s research, archival, and evaluation agenda towards solutions for economic justice as a pathway to dismantling structural racism, grounded in joy, equity, and wellbeing. This role will build partnerships and coalitions with community members as well as other anti-racist scholars to develop research projects and reports related to King Boston’s current areas of interest: wealth building, education, housing, and racial equality. In addition, this role will develop an archival and storytelling strategy, particularly around the history of Black resistance and organizing in Boston. The Director of Engaged Community Research will interact with and be informed by the wider and growing King Boston team (i.e., Director of Embrace Ideas, Director of Community Organizing and Director of Development and Donor Engagement). The Director of Engaged Community Research is a facilitative leader and brings vision and warmth and is eager to build and design a community based action research agenda. They must be adept at research, analysis, and partnership building and possess excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills. They hold a strong belief in and a vision for the role that community engaged research plays in the design and implementation of systems-based solutions for healing from and dismantling White supremacy culture and structural racism, particularly as related to economic justice. They are organized, solutions-oriented, self-directed, flexible and demonstrate leadership and initiative, while also being a committed and contributing team player.
