Inclusion & Diversity Advisor: Disability Inclusion & Emerging Talent Programs, Director

The Director, Disability Inclusion & Emerging Talent Programs, plays a key role in ensuring that we realize this ambition. They will lead Gilead's strategy to foster an inclusive workplace for employees living with disabilities, veterans, and other emerging talent groups. This role will drive strategic direction for inclusive talent practices, ensuring that all processes meet industry-leading standards and comply with regulatory requirements. The Director will collaborate across the organization to champion inclusive policies and support a diverse, equitable, and innovative workforce.
As a thought leader, change agent and trusted partner, this role will collaborate across the stakeholder groups and direct the work of an Associate Director, Disability Inclusion & Special Projects and a project coordinator, providing advice, counsel and collaboration on inclusion tactics and ensuring these strategies are aligned to our HR and corporate strategy.
This role reports to the Global Head of Inclusion & Diversity and may be located remotely; however, our Foster City, California Headquarters is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Lead and evolve Gilead’s disability inclusion and veterans programs, ensuring alignment with the company’s broader Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) strategy.
Identify and develop programs for emerging areas of talent, integrating them into the I&D strategy.
Serve as a key advisor on matters related to disability inclusion, veterans, and other diverse talent groups, ensuring programs are responsive to changing workforce needs.
Compliance and Best Practices:
Ensure all talent programs and processes comply with applicable local, state, federal, and global regulations (e.g., ADA, OFCCP, EEOC).
Stay updated on industry best practices and legal requirements for disability inclusion and veterans in the workplace.
Develop and monitor key metrics to assess compliance and the effectiveness of inclusion programs.
Talent Practices:
Partner with I&D Leadership, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, and HR Business Partners to embed inclusive hiring, onboarding, development, and retention practices for employees with disabilities, veterans, and emerging talent.
Review and enhance talent processes from a compliance lens to ensure consistency, fairness, accessibility, and compliance with industry regulations.
Advocate for accessible workplace technologies and accommodations that enable all employees to thrive.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), including those for employees with disabilities and veterans, to ensure alignment with Gilead’s I&D strategy.
Build partnerships with external organizations, consultants, and industry groups and experts to remain at the forefront of disability and veterans’ talent inclusion.
Drive education and awareness efforts across the company, fostering an inclusive culture that values diverse abilities and experiences.
Program Development and Evaluation:
Develop, implement, and continuously improve talent programs to support employees with disabilities, veterans, and emerging talent.
Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to program effectiveness, aspirational representation goals, and compliance.
Program Leadership:
Refresh and execute a comprehensive Disability Inclusion strategy, partnering with business leaders, Executive Sponsors, and our Disability Inclusion ERG Chairs to ensure meaningful impact.
Insight Generation:
Use quantitative and qualitative data and pertinent insights to both measure and inform I&D efforts, identifying and advising on opportunities and challenges to be addressed.
Insights Tool Refresh: Lead the refresh of the company’s I&D Insights Tool, managing the vendor, and work closely with HR and Talent Development & Inclusion (TDI) teams to track progress and ensure accountability in reaching aspirational representation goals.
Expertise:
Leadership: 12 years of relevant work experience, working with cross-functional partners and senior leadership to drive internal strategies and I&D outcomes
Industry Experience: Pharmaceutical or biotech industry required. Deep understanding of disability-related laws (e.g., ADA), veteran employment policies (e.g., VEVRAA), and other compliance regulations.
Proven ability to influence, lead cross-functional teams, and manage complex projects.
Knowledge of inclusive talent practices and a passion for fostering an equitable workplace culture.
Analytical Expertise: Utilization of data-driven approaches to develop insights, diagnose opportunities, inform decision making and tell a compelling story.
Business Acumen: Demonstrated understanding of strategic and operational drivers of business performance and demonstrated ability to embed I&D outcomes in business strategy and performance.
Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated experience in engaging with and communicating to a wide range of stakeholders on I&D topics (e.g., functional and country leadership, and senior executives).
Leadership Capabilities:
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence across a matrixed, global organization, adapting quickly to change and operating in ambiguous environment.
Ability to leverage data and insights to understand issues and identify and align opportunities.
Takes a proactive, long-term perspective in design and development of strategies to meet business needs.
