Job Description

Position: Environmental Engineer

Direct Reports: None

Reports To: EHS Manager

Salary Range: $110k to $125k

Relocation: Yes

Job Responsibilities: The Environmental Engineer will assure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and corporate environmental regulations, and permit issues (air, water, hazardous waste, etc.). Coordinate the development and administration of environmental policies, procedures, and programs. Provide plant-wide environmental support for design, utilization and operational issues relating to the facility and division-wide by advising on technical problems, technical changes to plant equipment, processes, energy, electrical/instrumentation systems, and site facilities. Plans, organizes, and initiates capital for environmental projects.

  • Oversees all aspects of environmental compliance at the facility.
  • Submits reports required by regulatory permitting or agency requests in a timely fashion.
  • Collaborates with production and supports leadership to maintain compliance with all permits and applicable regulations.
  • Conducts and/or ensures environmental training is completed per DOT/IATA/IMDG, RCRA, SPCC, HAZWOPER, etc.
  • Approves all plant CERs for environmental compliance and potential impacts.
  • Acts as the regulatory liaison with governmental agencies.
  • Assists and advises plant personnel in all areas of environmental compliance.
  • Leads investigations of all environmental incidents.
  • Collaborates with plant leadership team and key personnel to maintain RC14001 management system; participates in audits (internal and external), management-of-change events and management review.
  • Collaborates with the plant leadership team and key personnel to ensure timely reporting of incidents, inspections/audits, agency interaction and sustainability performance indicators in the management information system.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or other closely related degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with environmental compliance within an chemical production facility highly prefered.
  • Knowledge of RC14001, ISO14001, ISO9001 and/or other ISO-based management systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Alabama and EPA laws and regulations (air, wastewater, waste, DOT, and any other applicable regulations) and required reports.
  • Excellent planning, analytical and communication skills.
  • Self-starter and problem solver.
  • Organized and able to maintain good records/files.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
