Description Smithbucklin is seeking an executive director to be located in our Washington, DC office to serve our association management client organization, the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) . The CAATE is the organization responsible for accreditation of professional Athletic Training Education programs, Post-Professional Degree programs, and residencies and fellowship programs. The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) is the non-profit organization serving the public and profession by establishing and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards that facilitate quality outcomes, continuous improvement, innovation and diversity to enhance athletic training education. The Board of Commissioners is committed to a forward-thinking approach, focusing on quality improvement and innovation to advance education and healthcare outcomes in the field of athletic training. The CAATE is recognized by the Council for Higher Education (CHEA). CAATE Mission: Serving the public and profession by establishing and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards that facilitate quality outcomes, continuous improvement, innovation and diversity to enhance athletic training education. CAATE Vision: Advancing clinical practice and improving health care outcomes through promotion of excellence in athletic training education. We are seeking an executive director capable of providing the CAATE with strategic leadership to achieve aspirational goals, inspire innovation and to be accountable for operational excellence. A collaborator and consensus builder, capable of bringing together various segments of stakeholders to foster quality assurance, improvement and innovation in athletic training education. Partnering with the CAATE Board, the executive director has overall responsibility for strategic leadership, accreditation service program planning and execution, staff resource design and operations; and the financial and general business management functions of the organization. The individual selected for this role will engage the appropriate resources to support CAATE’s portfolio of products and services, and direct the work of a matrix CAATE team of experienced and talented functional specialists at SmithBucklin. The CAATE executive director is directly accountable to the Board of Directors for achievement of outcomes, mission impact, volunteer strength and service delivery. The executive director will work interdependently to execute their responsibilities within the framework of board policies and standards, and aligned with Smithbucklin client stewardship principles and operating guidelines as the association management company serving the CAATE. Success is measured by achievement of client-defined results and client-evaluated satisfaction measures, consistently demonstrating required executive competencies, and adherence to Smithbucklin Chosen Values. Internally, the CAATE executive director is part of a large Smithbucklin community of peer not-for-profit and association executives. Smithbucklin is a client-centric organization and this position is embedded within CAATE’s own culture, values and behaviors. Client organization work environments vary but are all dynamic and volunteer driven. SmithBucklin’s work style is collaborative, with teams organized both hierarchically and matrixed. Work activity for this role is self-managed. High pressure situations characterized by both changing expectations and multiple priorities are frequently encountered. Some travel is required. Qualifications A minimum of 10 years of experience in leadership and/or management roles. Experience as senior-level executive, COO, Chief of Staff or the top P&L leader, ideally within a not-for-profit or professional society/association environment. Capable of shaping vision and implementing an ambitious strategic plan. A business-minded person, with profit and loss and budgetary experience. Demonstrated passion for the mission of his/her organization, his/her professional community and cultivating a continuous learning culture. Knowledge and experience expanding awareness and communicating value of programs or professional standards through outreach, marketing and public relations. Recognized as a collaborator and someone who effectively builds and enhances relationships. Communication skills to effectively cultivate and maintain engagement with higher education program stakeholders and volunteers. An inspirational leader, with a history of leading a staff and managing their professional growth and development. Effective presentation and public speaking skills are required. Proficiency with basic computer software, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). An undergraduate degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred. Continuous improvement of standards for quality assurance and innovation in athletic training education. The salary range for this role is $130,000 to $190,000. In addition to base salary, performance-based bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package are available.
