Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Supports the safety and successful operations at the Astoria Aquatic Center, by promoting water safety, enforcing rules, monitoring patrons, maintaining vigilance, providing first aid, and preventing and responding to emergencies.
SCHEDULELifeguards are currently most needed for Monday - Friday 5:30AM-1:00PM & 3:30PM - 7:30PM and weekends 9:30AM - 3:30PM. This is a part-time position with variable hours depending on the Astoria Aquatic Center hours of operation and events. Part-time positions with the City are limited to working no more than 129 hours per month.
Interviews will be held on an ongoing basis

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Employees must be able to physically perform all duties of the lifeguard role which includes standing, sitting, walking, lifting, reaching, bending, climbing, balancing, kneeling and crouching. Occasionally lifting and moving up to 50 pounds is required and includes the ability to assist conscious and unconscious patrons in distress out of the water and on the deck including use of a backboard.
Employees are required to communicate verbally, follow instructions and protocols and hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility or in the facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Employees must remain alert and vigilant with the ability to see and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility requiring close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus to keep an effective scan pattern and keep a visual of the entire bottom of the pool and assigned zone.
While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and fumes or airborne particles (Chlorine).
