Job Description
Rebecca School is a developmental program that utilizes the DIRFloortime method , a relationship-based model of teaching instruction developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan. Rebecca School is opening a new location in Mount Vernon, NY for the 2024 schoolyear and is seeking Head Teachers to work with students age 3 to 21 with neurodevelopmental delays in relating, communicating and thinking. As a Head Teacher, you will develop your own classroom curriculum and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to support the students' social, emotional and academic growth. Rebecca School North is an expansion of the Rebecca School in NYC after 18 successful years of serving students with neurodevelopment delays in relating and communicating.
Pay Range is $53,000 to $75,000 depending on degree and experience (based on 12-month position)
RESPONSIBILITIES | WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING - Develop classroom curriculum, creating individualized, developmental, interest-based programs for each student while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team
- Differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of a variety of learning profiles
- Plan and execute lessons that follow Developmentally Appropriate Practice Guidelines; discuss plans weekly with Educational Supervisor
- Administer education assessments to determine a student's level of function relative to age and educational placement in the five domains of development
- Develop treatment plans and goals to improve student functional abilities and enhance their ability to learn
- Provide written assessment and reports identifying the student's needs and proposed treatment strategies, individual student goals and objectives
- Maintain and organize classroom and materials where students can easily access and clean-up items independently
- Communicate with families on a weekly basis
- Participate in weekly teacher meetings, team meetings, Greenspan meetings and supervision meetings with Educational Supervisor
- Train Teaching Assistants and evaluate them annually
- Maintain professional competence by attending staff development programs and continuing education programs
- Ensure safety of students
QUALIFICATIONS | WHAT YOU BRING - Master's Degree or close to completing Masters program
- NY State Certification
- Experience with the DIRFloortime method (or open to learning it)
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with students, staff and parents
