MightyFly is a leader in the logistics revolution. Existing logistics infrastructure is time and resource intensive. We are building the future of logistics with autonomous eVTOL cargo aircraft with a cargo capacity of 100 to 500 pounds and a range of 600 miles. Our logistics service aims to streamline business to business expedited delivery, providing door to door deliveries to our target customers in less time and lower cost than conventional logistics. MightyFly’s just-in-time logistics using unmanned aircraft will fundamentally transform how goods move around the globe.

ABOUT THE ROLE

MightyFly is looking for a seasoned airframe team lead, who will be responsible for planning and leading the design, architecture, implementation and testing of the MightyFly autonomous cargo transport aircraft. Specific responsibilities extend from designing aircraft from the ground up, into building the team and leading the team. The work will span a broad swath from system engineering, into mechanical, aerodynamics and manufacturing, into working closely with the software team and MightyFly’s leadership.

Our ideal candidate must be self-motivated, passionate about hybrid eVTOL aircraft development, and have a strong interest in working in a small, fast paced team where a variety of skills will need to be applied day to day.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead MightyFly’s autonomous aircraft design, development and manufacturing. 
  • Lead and grow our hardware team.
  • The creation and execution of the hardware development roadmap, aligning hardware milestones and development, with company-wide plan, goals and strategy.
  • Work with the team, consultants, vendors, and contractors to realize designs.
  • Development, implementation, and execution of test fixtures and infrastructure to verify the functionality and robustness of the autonomous aircraft.
  • Hardware support and participation in flight tests to validate our system’s functionality.
  • Hardware requirements specification, management and tracking, with an eye towards certification when necessary.
  • Contributing to high-level planning and architecture discussions in collaboration with other team members.
  • Documenting designs and tests.
  • Providing documentation and technical information for certification purposes.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Technical
  • +10 years composites airframe design and development engineering experience
  • CAD and schematics experience
  • Experienced designing mechanical assemblies in aerospace or automotive
  • Hands-on experience with composites and metallic structures
  • Knowledgeable with both team-wide and individual best practices
  • Experience designing safety critical hardware
  • Planning & Partnering
  • Ability to plan and deliver on time
  • Excellent technical communication skills
  • Ability to translate product requirements into technical implementation plans 
  • Good judgment on when to say Yes and No! Ship when we need to ship and punt when we can afford to punt
  • A mixture of customer obsession and product vision

Nice to have

  • Experience designing large eVTOL aircraft
  • Experience with internal combustion engines. Eg. 2-stroke or 4-stroke
  • Familiarity with aviation certification standards & processes
